Memory - A traditional block in modern fabric

A while back, I was in the mood to piece a traditional quilt block. With no real plan in mind, I pulled some fabrics in teal, mint, gray and gold. I had some white Kona Cotton on hand for a background, so I just started making blocks using a block I found in one of my block books called Memory.

I ended up making 12 blocks {the quilt is flipped over on the railing from the photo above here}.

The blocks were super fun to piece, especially pairing up the fabrics for each one.

I photographed the quilt on a beautiful Saturday morning at an industrial building along Greenville's Swamp Rabbit Trail.

I think simple straight line quilting works so well when you have a quilt with very high contrast fabrics. I was happy with how my 3/4" spaced lines turned out - straighter than usual. Amazing what slowing down a bit will accomplish!

The backing is Alison Glass Grow in Charcoal and the binding is Cotton + Steel Dottie in Fedora.

Have you noticed I love traditional blocks in modern fabrics? Yes, it's my favorite!
